Microscope 225 is a student microscope probably made in England in the 1930s or 1940s. The maker is unknown. The instrument came with its original wooden box, which contains a stamp suggesting it belonged to the Tetbury Grammar School, in Gloucestershire. In 1610, Sir William Romney, a native of Tetbury and one of the founders of the East India Company, set aside £13 per year in his will to fund the teaching of the children of the town. This school became Tetbury Grammar School, adopting the name Sir William Romney’s in the early 1950s.
